"My Favorite Word" by Lucia and James L. Hymes, Jr.
There is one word –
My favorite – The very, very best. It isn’t No or Maybe. It’s Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, YES!I “Yes, yes, you may,” and “Yes, of course,’ and “Yes, please help yourself.” And when I want a piece of cake, “Why, yes. It’s on the shelf.” Some candy? “Yes.” A cookie? “Yes.” A movie? “Yes, we’ll go.” I love it when they say my word. Yes, Yes, YES! (Not No.) |

What to Wear Where
by J. Patrick Lewis
When I was a boy
in Looziana,
we wore blue jeans
and a red bandana.
My folks moved up
to the state of Maine,
we wore duck shoes
in slick-suit rain.
My folks moved down
to the state of Texas,
we wore brand names
like Lazy X's.
Now that we 're living
it up in Vermont,
we wear pretty much
whatever we want.
in Looziana,
we wore blue jeans
and a red bandana.
My folks moved up
to the state of Maine,
we wore duck shoes
in slick-suit rain.
My folks moved down
to the state of Texas,
we wore brand names
like Lazy X's.
Now that we 're living
it up in Vermont,
we wear pretty much
whatever we want.

The Adventures of Isabel, (Parts 2-3) by Ogden Nash
Presented by '13-14 IAA 5th Graders
Declan, Eli, Kate, Mohamud, Tula. Once in a night as black as pitch
Isabel met a wicked old witch. the witch's face was cross and wrinkled, The witch's gums with teeth were sprinkled. Ho, ho, Isabel! the old witch crowed, I'll turn you into an ugly toad! Isabel, Isabel, didn't worry, Isabel didn't scream or scurry, She showed no rage and she showed no rancor, But she turned the witch into milk and drank her. Isabel met a hideous giant, Isabel continued self reliant. The giant was hairy, the giant was horrid, He had one eye in the middle of his forehead. Good morning, Isabel, the giant said, I'll grind your bones to make my bread. Isabel, Isabel, didn't worry, Isabel didn't scream or scurry. She nibbled the zwieback that she always fed off, And when it was gone, she cut the giant's head off. |
